Marie Báez Lorenzo
Marie Báez Lorenzo was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After graduating cum laude with a B.A. from Tufts University, in Boston, she headed to New Orleans, Louisiana to attend the Tulane University Law School. Shortly after obtaining her J.D., she moved to the United Kingdom to pursue a Master of Laws degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham, graduating with distinction in 2012.
Upon her return from the United Kingdom, Marie began her practice handling civil and appellate matters at a small boutique firm in Miami. At this firm, Marie had the opportunity to author a petition for writ of certiorari that successfully overturned a lower court’s decision against her client and established precedent in the Florida Third District Court of Appeal. Thereafter, Marie practiced international arbitration in the Miami office of a Tier 1 top 10 global law firm where she represented multinational corporations in high-stakes, cross-border commercial arbitrations, guiding them through the dispute from the initial investigation and case development phase, through discovery, trial, and post-trial proceedings. At this firm, Marie achieved an $80+ million award in favor of her client, a multinational infrastructure engineering and construction company based in Miami. The award was rendered in an arbitration dispute relating to my client’s share purchase acquisition of a conglomerate of companies based in Alberta, Canada.
Prior to joining Zinober Diana & Monteverde, Marie then ventured into the insurance defense practice, handling a number of 3rd party claims in a variety of areas, including employment and labor matters involving defense of discrimination claims, responding to the EEOC and FCHR charges of discrimination, in addition to matters involving issues relating to professional liability, wrongful death, premises liability, and auto negligence.
Marie has deep-rooted cultural ties to Miami, the city which she now calls home.
